It was earlier today at the Chicago Auto Show where the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO made its inaugural public debut. Set to race at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours, the latest project from the NISMO team is the ULTIMATE Nissan GT-R engineered to compete on all high levels of performance. The GT-R LM NISMO was a global effort where the design and engineering process was built and tested by selected insiders from Japan, United States, and Europe. Unlike other LM P1 cars, the Nissan GT-R's V6 3.0-liter twin-turbo gasoline engine's placement sits in front of the FWD car while hybrid power is harveseted from the front driveline to expand acceleration.
It is the first time in 16 years that Nissan will compete in the Le Mans top class considering its tour-de-force involvement as an engine supplier in the LM P2 class garnering three victories over the past four years. Being a major factor in the "Garage 56" at Le Mans, Nissan's program is setup by the Automobile Club de de l'Ouest (ACO) that is reserved for innovative technology that falls outside of normal regulations with vehicles including the ZEOD RC that competed last year.
"LM P1 cars are the most extreme sports cars in racing today and for Nissan and NISMO, the opportunity to innovate at the highest level cannot be missed," said Darren Cox, Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, NISMO. "We are excited to be going head-to-head with the best sports car racing manufacturers in the world, representing the pinnacle of current racing technology, with energy recovery systems, fuel-efficient engines and innovative aerodynamics that will be transferable to Nissan road cars of the future."
The Chicago Auto Show Will Be Going From February 14 - 22, 2015 At The McCormick Place
